Miniature Golf is the ultimate family game. There’s no dress code and you’re practically encouraged to be intoxicated. Miniature golf became extremely popular in the 1920s and by the end of the decade, there were over 150 miniature golf courses on rooftops throughout New York.

Across the United States, there were tens of thousands of miniature golf courses because people had more leisure time. The miniature golf boom came to a sudden end with the great depression. Almost all of the miniature golf courses in the United States were demolished or closed by the end of the 1930s. Miniature golf almost died out as a competitive sport in the United States but slowly recovered. By the 1950s miniature golf courses added castles, wishing wells, and windmills. Miniature golf has so far not reached huge popularity outside of the United States but it is still going strong.

A national miniature golf day is held each year on May 2nd. Here are 5 miniature golf courses in Los Angeles.
